The Design & Construction Section is responsible for building the Milpitas community through the completion of Capital Projects.
The Section provides for the design and construction of street, utility, parks, and building infrastructure.

Although the current vacancy is in the Design and Construction Division, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill other vacancies during the life of the list.
Examples of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to.
the following:
Perform professional and technical engineering tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Research project design requirements; perform calculations and prepare estimates of time and material costs.
Confer with contractors, consulting engineers, sub dividers, construction inspectors, and members of the public relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Perform related duties as assigned.
In addition, when assigned to Design and Construction Assist on supervising the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, schedules and cost estimates for City Capital Improvement Projects, including sewer, water, storm drain, above ground utility projects, building and park renovation and street improvement projects, etc.
Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets.
Coordinate engineering activities with other City departments, divisions and sections and with outside agencies.
Assist Associate Civil Engineer managing public works construction projects from design through completion of construction.

Possess an Engineer-in-Training Certificate accepted by the State of California Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of California is DESIRED But not required.
ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER:
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible and varied professional civil engineering experience including supervisory experience.
Education:
A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering.
License or Certificate:
Possess and maintain throughout employment an appropriate, valid California Driver's License.
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
Supplemental Information Screening and Selection Process:
Applications will be screened frequently and based on the minimum qualifications of both the Assistant Engineer and Associate Civil Engineer levels.
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications and pass a subject matter expert review will be invited to a Zoom interview.
